Accountability:
There are special accountability needs in connection with
government funding of faith-based organizations and their
programs. These include ensuring that the government is not
paying for proselitizing, which would clearly violate the
separation of church and state.
Vaules:
There are several values cherished by Americans that have come
to be recognized and supported by the social services programs
Bush's initiatives are aimed at. These include worker's
rights, privacy, freedom of associaton, freedom of conscience,
freedom of (and from) religion.
Americans
United of Alaska is monitoring the implementation of President
Bush’s Faith-Based and Community Initiatives in Alaska.
Our concern is to ensure that the programs affected are held
accountable for their stated purposes, and that the
constitutional separation between church and state is
maintained.
